IT WAS WILD, MAN -- WILD!

That's about all that can be said about the gas coupe meet. Ron Hassell was very impressive in his overall top gass ----- trailer with a 10.52 at 131.57 mph - national record 10:66 - 129.49 mph. Lamar Bobo from Rome, Georgia, in the Hemi-Hurricane got low E.T. of the meet and top mph with 10.34 at 134.12 mph blast. Paul Vanderly and Emile Robicheaux almost pulled off the biggest upset of the meet with a fantastic hole shot in the Knight Rider against Joe Teuton. Robicheaux had Teuton a car length at the 3/4 mark only to miss fourth gear and watch Joe motor on by for the win.
C/Gas had the most cars with eight, three of them in the elevens. Teuton, J.C. Sizemore in the Golden Rod and Sidney Foster, driving Ken Guy's 3,840 lb. '65 Plymouth Hemi.
Jerry Coludrovich and Alvin Ashe, two Mississippi cars made it to the finals in D/G with Ashe --- Jessie Measles and Larry Blakey both blew engines in their cars and were unable to come. Measles was really wanting to tangle with Hassel and was mighty disappointed. One of the most interesting things we saw was Lamar Bobo's novel idea on cooling his car. He had a electric fan mounted in front of his radiator to cool the engine between runs. It works real well.
Be sure to check out the money set-up for this race and the State Championship meet rules will be the same for both and if it meets with your acceptance. We'll continue it Regular NHRA Handicap Eliminators and E.T. brackets, too!!
