BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI (Biloxi Dragway) October 23 - Ray Goodman's Bo-Weevil and Billy Webb's beautiful "Blue Light" dragsters really put on a show for the few fans that showed up in the light rain Sunday morning. 130 cars pulled in hoping for dry skies and dry track.
By noon the skies cleared somewhat and the sun even peeked through for a while. During the series of three runs Sonny Atkins from Memphis broke Col. Art Malone's track record of 7.75 with a 7.71 blast from his high horsepower "Tennessee Bo-Weevil"
First round of the match raced kicked off the racing for the day. Both of the big Chrysler-powered Fuelers pushed down the track, turned around, and fired up the nitro burning engines.
The dragsters staged very carefully and they were off side by side at the green. The Bo-Weevil got a car length at the midway point and held it all the way for the win, with a speed of 186.72 mph, no e.t. This was one of the closest dragster races we've had at Biloxi.
Webb's beautiful "Blue Light" dragster was right with Sonny Atkins in the "Bo Weevil" at the finish with less than a car length between them.
In No. 1 Eliminator action Emile Dumont B/D beat Bob Maquin D/D with an 11.12 at 126.58 mph. Next Ken Woods C/A beat Dennis Dauro C/MSP Corvette. Then, Joe Cabiran's B/MSP singled for the win when when John Furey's B/A lost fire.
In No. 2 Eliminator the Dupuy Brothers D/MP beat Don Francis's C/SP 'Vette with a 13.02 at 107 and Bill Work D/SP vette put away Alvin Ashe's C/MP Vette with a 12.89 at 106.25 mph.
Gass Eliminator action found Jerry Coludrovich D/Gasser the winner over Joe Wessing's H/G with a 15.87 - 96.15 mph. Next, it was Rodenburg Texaco B/G over David Rester E/G with a 14.44 at 100.33 mph. Lyle Saley's C/G made the bye.
Top Stock found 10 cars answering the call with first two cars up the B/SA '67 Gentilly Dodge of Charles Reading taking the win over Jeffie Posey's '62 Plymouth C/SA. Roy Helton's B/S Chevelle got the win light against S.T. Cooper's EE/S Jiffy No. 2 with a 13.35 at 109.22 mph.
Ron Lee's A/S Ford put down Randolph Morrison's C/S 442 Oldsmobile with a 13.68 at 108.56 mph. Next, was Charlotte Merritt in her  D/SA Chevy II against Ted Walters CC/Stocker. At the finish it was the candy red GTO with a 13.48 at 108.56.
Second round of the match race was called and everyone got a good position to see this one. At the green again Sonny Atkins and Billy Webb came off side by side with the "Bo-Weevil" taking the win with a 8.26 at 173.07 mph.
