BILOXI, MISS. -- JULY 2 -- Don Gay's all new '66 GTO and Dee Keaton's blown Comet were the featured attractions at the Holiday Festival Drag Races at Biloxi. Two hundred and four racers were classified to round out a real good night of drag racing.

The B/A class tonight was real strong with 3 cars turning in the elevens. Curtis White, from Vidalia, Louisiana, was the eventual winner with some good solid low elevens at over 120 mph.

First round of the match race came up at 6:30 sharp. Don Gay's Candy Burgundy GTO and Dee Keaton's bright red Comet. These were really two fine looking race cars. Keaton held back in the staging lanes while Gay burned in the rosin. Keaton declining to use any, saying he didn't need it. Both cars inched forward then they were staged. The tree came on and they were off. Keaton leaving a little too early catching the big red eye, Gay was off in hot pursuit, about 600 ft. out Gay's car faltered, then a huge ball of fire was seen under the car. Don wisely shut off, Keaton went through with a real strong 9.25 154.10 mph. lie sure proved his point about not using any rosin.

Back to the pits and it was learned Gay had blown a transmission and was out of the racing for the night. In class action the old Chevrolet man Jack Cooley came out on top in B/S over a real strong field of eight cars turning a 12.30 at 11.24 mph on his class win. We had two cars under the national record in B/S tonight - Cooley's and Elisha Boyd's 427 Impala. Boyd went 12:28. CC/S again fell to Ted Walters "Would You Believe" GTO from Mobile, Alabama at 13.22. C/S to Alfred Krebs from Pascagoula, Miss. '63 Ford 13.49, EE/S S.T. Cooper the National Record holder at 13.24 - H/S to Glenn Wilder from Baton Rouge, 14.54.

Nick Revon with the "Thunder" Dodge from New Orleans was the back up car tonight. In the second round he filled in for Gay. Nick got a half second spot on Keaton's blown wedge powered Comet. Keaton played catch-up and won with a 9.67 147.05 mph. Revon had some handling problems and had to shut off. They have just recently converted over to injection and fuel and Nick is just getting used to all the power.
