BILOXI DRAGWAY RESULTS APRIL 11, 1965
Maverick Wheelstands in Exhibition Runs
From DRAG NEWS
BILOXI, MISS. April 11th.... Bill "Maverick" Golden paid his annual visit to Biloxi Dragway and really set the fans back down saying, "I still don't believe it." Between wheelstands he also found time to set his own personal top speed record of 132.30 mph.
There was a huge crowd of competitors out today, drawn by the "Little Red Wagon" and the warm spring weather. Over 170 cars in all were in competition plus ten bikes.
Leonard Hughes with the Moonshot A/FX '65 Plymouth was on hand to take Top Stock Money with a 10.97 blast at 127.84 mph. He will be a tough car to beat in the Big Super Stock Bonanza at Biloxi Dragway next race Saturday night April 24th.
Bill Golden's first run was a real tailgater as he calls them. If you haven't seen the truck, he rolls it off the line a few feet and then presses the go pedal and the front end starts for the sky and doesn't stop until he either lets off the gas or the tailgate hits the track. The crowd went wild on each run "Maverick" made.
Ken Schwing of New Orleans took Top Elim. money with his C/D with a 10.91 The Flathead Ford D/D dragster driven by David Jeansome of Baton Rouge, La. had several runs in the tens also.
A/G had three fine running cars trying for the trophy, Ron Lee's 427 Ford powered Henry-J, Doug Neil's 426 Dodge powered '35 Chevy and Chris Fairly with his '63 Z-11 Chevy. Trophy run was between Ron Lee and Doug Neill. Doug's big Dodge powerplant lost fire on the line and Ronald Lee went on to take the trophy at 12.05 E.T. 117.43 mph.
The A/A of John Goris won No. 1 Elim. with a run of 11.28. Bill Kirkpatrick of Pascagoula, Miss. was caught napping on the line on the money run. This was the first time Bill had driven the car. He bad just bought the little B/A earlier in the week.
Blake & Strickland continues to amaze everyone with their C/MP 301 Chevy. They are tuning right close to the national record and are virtually unbeatable in No. 2 Elim. which "by the way" they won.
The 427 powered fiberglass Ford of John Hankston of Hammond, La.
took stock Elim. with a 12.78 in his AA/Stocker.
