Sitton Sets Record

BILOXI, MISS., May 25 Charles Sitton of Houston, Texas cracked the Gulf Coast Drag Strip speed record right down the middle here recently when he hit the win lights at 196.07 miles-per-hour. Sitton was at the throttle of Paul Vanderley's "Swamp Rat III" fuel rail.

The Texan hit speeds of 182, and 186-MPH before going all out for the 190-plus mark.

The speed was the fastest in this area this season and will undoubtedly stand for some time as the track mark. The old mark was 186-MPH.

Vanderley's "Swamp Rat III" currently taking top fuel eliminator honors in these parts, was formerly owned by Don Garlits.
