In regular competition it was fast and furious with Al Waits and
Leonard Dobard sporting their Chev. powered "B" dragsters for the
B class trophy. Dobard took a big leap as they sped out of the
chute. Waits following in close pursuit made a valiant effort
coming up from behind but he was unable to catch the fleeing
Dobard. In the top eliminator competition the crowd saw the same
show in the first leg of the run with Dobard missiling and leaving
Waits a car length behind in the slip stream.
This placed Charles (Boogie Scott of New Orleans in his bin Olds
'A' dragster against Dobard in the final heat. Dobard stuck both
feet in his carburetor and flew off the line with Scott hanging on
his tail feathers About midway of the length it was anyone's race
when Scott's blower kicked in and away he went to become top
eliminator of the day.
In middle eliminator, Sonny Ransom in his Chevy 'A' altered
coupe took the advantage over his motorcycle rival. Cliff Smith,
with a sizzling 11.77 secs at 122.48 mph.
Little eliminator saw Marion Walton's Chevy powered Devin
'A' Sports car take on all rivals to emerge little eliminator
champion with a bold 12.01 secs at 122.35 mph.
