BILOXI DRAGWAY RESULTS JUNE 19, 1960
Keen Competition In Little Eliminator (From Drag News)
Biloxi, Miss. June 19th, 1960 - Albert Waits of New Orleans in
his record holding Chevy Dragster took on all comers to win the
big race Sunday at the Gulf Coast Drag Strip.
Frank Constanga of Hammond, La was present with his new "A"
Dragster to put the pressure on. Tony DiBennedito driving the
Constanga machine had been turning almost identical times in the
low tens on the 139 mph bracket all day. The crowd was keyed to
the big race to come, as they knew that both machines were really
right: however during the class eliminations DiBennedito blew high
gear and was forced out of the running. Waits then made his run to
turn 10.52 seconds at 139.25 mph.
Little Eliminator provided a thrill as Andy Zanka of New Orleans
driving his 54 Corvette and Paul Daigrepont driving his Olds
powered Ford pickup truck pulled into position. Both boys had been
turning in the low 13 second bracket and the crowd came to its
feet as they left the line. It was even step even to the half way
point where Zanka turned on the power and crossed the finish a
scant two car lengths ahead. The winning time was 13.03 seconds at
112.50 mph.
