Biloxi, Mississippi, May 3 - Probably the largest number of students and teachers in the history of the strip saw Tony DiBenedetto take home the top eliminator honors driving his Chev powered "B" Dragster just short of the class record.
Don Licall in his "B" Competition Coupe set a new top speed record for his class with a run of 119.24mph. His E.T. for that run was 11.99 sec. His Chevy-powered coupe, sporting new Hilburn injector is capable of doing even greater things once the secret of tuning is mastered.
The "B" Dragster and the "B" Competition Coupe were the finalist in the run for the roses. The two machines came off the line as one and stayed about neck and neck until the last few feet whe the Dragster inched ahead and won in 11.97 sec at 119.21 mph.
Little top eliminator was won by Grady Ditsworth in his "B" Sports Corvette in 13.88 sec. at 95.75 mph.
There were representatives of La., Texas, Miss., and Ala. at the strip today to take part in the Biloxi HI School Day Races. All teachers and students of that school were guests of the strip. Next Sunday will be Jr. HI Day to aquaint the students of our community with the availability of a safe, super-vised place to race and thus remove them from the streets and highways.
